Hazardous waste is at the core of many of the interventions we handle daily. To keep our teams safe and ready to respond efficiently, we have chosen to provide in-depth hazmat training to several of our hazmat technicians.

This training was delivered by Targe, a company specializing in firefighter training for incidents involving dangerous substances.

Thanks to this extra technical training in how to handle hazardous materials, our workforce is fully equipped with the skills and knowledge required for effective risk assessment, worker safety, and emergency response.

Comprehensive Training on Hazardous Materials Interventions

This 40-hour training was divided into two parts: 16 hours of theory and 24 hours of hands-on practice. It covered the main classes of hazardous materials, including highly flammable petroleum products and Class 8 corrosive substances, such as extreme acids and bases.

Other types of dangerous products were also addressed, including explosives, radioactive materials, oxidizers, reactives, and different types of hydrogen peroxide. With this knowledge, our teams can now better identify risks and apply the appropriate safety measures.

One of the key aspects of this training was the real-life intervention simulations. Our technicians learned how to secure sites, recover and neutralize hazardous substances, and carry out cleaning and decontamination procedures.

The use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as encapsulated suits and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), was a central focus of the training. They also mastered the handling of absorbents, neutralizers, and pumps to improve the efficiency of our interventions.

Participants from Different Departments

Eight employees from EBI Group took part in this training. Among them:

  • Four experienced hazmat technicians who improved their skills in specific interventions.
  • Three members of EBI Envirotech, who were trained to understand the various risks associated with hazardous materials. This knowledge will help them anticipate client requests and keep their teams safe.
  • A representative from the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) department at headquarters also completed the training to gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by our branches and improve prevention measures.

Importance of this Training Program for Enviro Urgence

Our teams regularly handle hazardous materials during daily operations. This training helped them develop natural reflexes for risk identification and appropriate responses. It enabled a better understanding of hazards and ensured enhanced worker protection. In some cases, a detailed report had to be forwarded to our specialists at Enviro Urgence.

With this certification, our employees are now better prepared to intervene safely and efficiently.
